America is a band I had the privilege of seeing several times back inthe seventies. I was in high school when they released " A horse withno name". I saw them at an outdoor arena with a small amount of actualseats but with a Huge grassy area for seating. The Summer of Love(1969) was not that far in the past and a lot of folks were smokingpot on the lawn and just relaxing and having a good time.

Folk music was still pretty popular at the time and although Americawas not exactly a "Folk" band; they were a kinda of early "Folk/Rock"band. Their mix of acoustic guitars was one of the best parts of theperformance. Their vocals are amazing. To this day;forty some yearslater; I still like to hear their music.I saw them not long after their debut album came out so they did nothave as many songs as they did later in their career. I caught them at

another venue some years later and they had a much fuller set listwith several "hit" songs. Most of the folks in the audience reallyenjoyed the show...as did I! The crowd all sand along when they played

"Horse with no name". Most venues do not allow drinking these days

"Horse with no name". Most venues do not allow drinking these days(let alone "smoking") so the crowd was not quite as laid back.Still...many in the audience knew the lyrics and sang along.Report as inappropriate songkick.com
